Aziz Aljasmi is a Kuwaiti film and commercial director who won numerous prestigious awards, including the Cannes Lion and Dubai Lynx, making him one of the promising creative figures in Kuwait’s new wave of filmmakers. He directed numerous commercials for famous commercial brands like STC, Zain, Ooredoo, the National Bank of Kuwait, Hardee’s, and Burger King, and in 2019, he was listed as one of the top 10 directors in the Middle East by the B&W report.

Bio

During his work as a director of commercials at Cinemagic Kuwait, he won two bronze awards from the Dubai Lynx and a gold and silver from the MENA Cristal Awards for his commercial for Quality Net. In 2015, he directed two versions of a Ramadan commercial for the telecommunications company Zain, which placed in the top five of Campaign Middle East’s list of the year’s best commercials from the Middle East and North Africa.

In 2017, Aljasmi took home a gold award at the Dubai Lynx and a bronze at the Cannes Lion for his commercial Who is Bu Salem? for the tea line of a locally-grown brand Al Munayes General Trading Est. Following this, in 2018, he received another silver award at the Dubai Lynx.

And in 2019, he directed a commercial for the National Day of Kuwait for the Middle Eastern telecommunications firm Ooredoo. The commercial, which featured Kuwaiti singer Essa Almarzoug, went viral, amassing over 10m views on YouTube, and became a phenomenon across the country. After finding success as an ad director, Aljasmi decided to become an independent director and branch out into the world of film while continuing to work in the advertising industry.
